I remember with joy the weekend that I drove 600 miles across Texas to take my first Pilates lesson with my mentor Colleen Glenn. It was almost 30 years ago, and I have been intrigued ever since! I love to move!
In fact after years of competition in everything from dance, cycling, running, triathlon, pro bodybuilding and figure shows, I discovered something that made me stop and literally take a breath. That something was Pilates. Through my 30 years of studies, certifications, workshops and personal practice, I found a sacred space in which profound healing took place for my body, mind and soul. I learned how teaching this work could help me spread that feeling of reverence and delight to others. I have had the privilege of working in pain clinics, hospitals and my own studios with individuals of all ages, conditions and ability levels. I found that there is indeed a common thread between these people and Pilates; it is accessible to anyone who wants to learn.
I have seen this work change many people by giving them new and improved mobility, posture, self-confidence and a sense of achievement The lives of my teachers, students and family have changed with it. I am so blessed to continue sharing Pilates and fitness here in our studio.

Movement and play have always been part of my daily practice. As a Business Advisor for the Federal Government, I became more sedentary. I was drawn to exercises that improved mobility, flexibility and functional movements, and Pilates seemed like the natural way for me to go.
The Pilates method allowed me to move and prevent myself from being injured , as well as allowing me to build strength from the outside in. The playfulness of the work kept me stimulated.

At 20 weeks pregnant, my body was undergoing rapid changes, making it difficult to maintain my usual running routine that had once been my source of energy, clarity, and excitement.
It was during a casual lunch with my aunt that I first heard about Pilates. Intrigued by her enthusiasm, I asked about her instructor and the studio she frequented. This is how I was introduced to Marti Boyle and the world of classical Pilates. In my first session, I discovered that movement could be both fun and challenging, yet also follow a systematic approach.
As I continued my Pilates practice, I faced the challenge of balancing work, family, and personal growth. Returning to work as a Reading Recovery teacher in the inner city, I found it difficult to commit to my practice while preparing and planning for my students and being present for my family. I began to feel overwhelmed and questioned whether my time in the classroom had ended. However, during this challenging period, I was encouraged to pursue training as a Classical Pilates instructor. This was a turning point for me, an opportunity to deepen my practice and apply my teaching skills to mindful movement, transforming my feelings of overwhelm into a sense of empowerment.

Movement is a language I’ve been speaking my whole life. It began with ballet and modern dance. Throughout my life, I’ve had wonderful teachers who believed in me and saw something I couldn’t yet see in myself.
As a young adult, I found myself living a more sedentary lifestyle. I exercised, but consistency was difficult, and movement no longer felt enjoyable. It was through navigating an autoimmune diagnosis that I returned to movement in a new way, one that connected me more deeply to my body. This is when I truly discovered Pilates. Through Pilates, I wasn’t just exercising; I was listening. I moved more slowly, developed awareness, and watched myself grow stronger.
Over time, I felt a call toward teaching and chose to follow it. I completed a 114-hour Mat Pilates certification through Wellness Within. Enriched by comprehensive training, I am passionate about guiding movement that deepens the mind-body connection.
I offer Pilates that supports sustainable strength and overall wellness through precision, breath, and thoughtful movement.

PILATES INSTRUCTOR
Hi! I’m Shannon LaFave, and I’ve been passionate about Pilates for over 10 years. I discovered Pilates thanks to a childhood friend who was a dancer using it for stretching and rehabilitation. While I enjoyed classes at other studios, my practice truly transformed when I began training with Marti Boyle, at Studio 124 Pilates! Marti taught me how to set up the apparatus and flow seamlessly through transitions – giving me real autonomy in my practice and making Pilates my go-to exercise for life.
For over 8 years I’ve been part of a lively, fun group class community that inspired me to pursue teacher training. I’ve always worked sedentary desk jobs, and Pilates has changed my body in ways I never expected—improving my strength, flexibility, and posture. I practiced Pilates right up to week 40 in both of my pregnancies, and it was essential for my core recovery after two cesarean births.
More recently I’ve fallen in love with mat classes too (especially David’s!), and I can personally attest to the power of mat Pilates to build strength and flexibility.
I’m excited to share the power of Pilates with others and help them find joy, strength, and confidence in their own practice!

Hi everyone! I’m Solmaz, a Peak Pilates Level 1 Comprehensive Instructor here at Studio 124.
I completed my training in September 2026 in Austin, Texas. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from and work with incredible mentors, Nancy and Marti, whose guidance has been such an important part of my journey.
I first discovered Pilates over a year ago as a form of self-care, but it quickly became so much more. Through its emphasis on the mind-body connection, Pilates has had a meaningful impact on my life and inspired me to become an instructor so I could share that experience with others.
I’m passionate about continuing to learn, grow, and deepen my understanding of the Pilates method, while creating a welcoming space where we can move, learn, and have fun together.
